I was inspired to do a bunch of water color paintings after long time friend and legendary tattoo artist Lil D came to my private studio from Portland to work for a few days.. It was awesome, we both set up and tattooed for three days like total madmen!! We worked from 12:00 in the afternoon until 2:30 in the morning telling tales of tattooing in Oakland from 20 years ago, trust me back in those days all kinds of crazy shit happened in tattoo studios including full blown fist fights, being tipped the most unusual shit, (once i was tipped a real human skull in a paper bag with a gun and bullets in it!!) and tons of other wacky tales to crazy to mention.. Studios these days are MUCH tamer and WAY more safe than they were back then.. Tattoo artists these days really missed the real experience of being a complete outcasts and rebel's with no desire to be part of normal society.. Getting a tattoo back then set you apart from everyone else.. Now tattoos are pretty much the norm and a true rebel has no need to go into such a commercial establishment.... Im just glad i got to have the true tattoo experience, that 90% of tattooers today missed out on.... Although i love tattooing more today than ever, i do believe that days like those will never be relived by modern day tattoo artists..
